Grapevine Grafting

25 Years of Expert Vineyard Grafting Experience
Perhaps the most critical aspect of vineyard management and development is the actual technique that goes into caring for the grapevines.
Grapevine field grafting is your avenue to mix and match various flavors and varieties of your fruit trees.
When grafting is done correctly, your vineyard stands to see a massive leap in quality and productivity–with new flavors, pest-resistant breeds, and exotic grape varieties developed and cultivated.
At Grape Land Vineyard Management, lead vineyard manager, Marcelo Robledo, a 25-year veteran of the grafting and winemaking industry, has perfected many grapevines grafting techniques to deliver the best results.
We perform all of the critical types of grapevine grafting, including:

T-Budding Graft Process
The most popular kind of grapevine grafting, T-Budding presents an almost foolproof means of grafting your vines.
Despite its popularity, however, T-Budding has to be executed within a specific period–the intervention period— which lasts on average, 4 to 8 weeks.
The t-bud grafting period falls between early March and May/early June. It is necessary to begin the grafting process within these four months to ensure success.
Step 1: Decapitate the Vine

Step 2: Place the Buds

Step 3: Wrap the Buds

Step 4: Expel Excess Water From Vine

Rootstock Grafting

Rootstock grafting boosts vineyard efficiency, plant lifespan, pest and disease resistance, and resistance to cold weather. The scion of your preferred varietal is grafted onto the rootstock of a hardier plant, to produce sturdier, more adaptable grape varieties.
We are well versed in the various forms of rootstock grafting for Sonoma and Napa County vineyard.
